I was on a conference call yesterday where someone said that if you could call the Telecommunications Act of 1996 a stimulant to competition, then Hitler’s “Mein kampf” should be renamed the “Human Rights Charter of 1924.”

Although the regulatory and legal environments in the US are different from those in Canada, some parallels in their impact on the level of competition in the two markets are obvious. The Telecommunications Act in the US that was supposed to promote competition may in fact fail to deliver. The upcoming price cap Decision from the CRTC will be pivotal in deciding how much competition we’ll have in Canada in the future.
