After six months, the first stick fatigued due to wood dropping out from within the fibreglas after about 3.5 months. This was obviously a stick quality issue, not the bladetape. The second stick that I set up is still going strong.

I love how the bladetape has improved the quality of my play, but I am still looking for a grip solution that lasts… the griptape is all broken up and has fallen away.

The perfect combination for this is a composite stick with bladetape, and I’d like to encourage Rich to work on a more durable and stickier griptape solution for total perfection..

The use of the grip tape as a handle hasn’t really worked out, of course, but that’s asking a lot of any form of tape.

My passing has tremendously improved, stick accuracy is incredible, and wear on the GoalieTape surface has actually been not too bad at all. As Rich pointed out, traditional hockey tape seals in moisture and causes the stick to deteriorate quickly. I am finding that blade edge wear is actually quite good and much improved over my last set of wood sticks.

So perhaps some of the negative elements of my feedback were a little hasty — in all I’d recommend GoalieTape for any stick, composite or otherwise.

And I’d like to help Rich develop a hand grip that works for goalies. 🙂

The playability enhancements of lighter weight, better feel do offer most goalies a better alternative. We waited one full year of testing on ice prior to
placing in the market. And the price is something we are working on….but’s it’s a lot of material and we don’t make that much money on it…but we felt
we had to offer goalies an advantage too.
We could have used stickier backing tape, but it too comes with a trade-off of less easy to remove.
The bottom edge issue is the whole point of our product..faster stick movement ergo-higher save percentage. It’s designed with composites in mind.
You’ll agree that composites will be the way of the future( yes, even in goal sticks my friend)….thus the demand for a light “bottom free tape” will grow.
A tip for you to try as you continue to use our product…you are used to wiping your blades dry no doubt? Well try this-tap off the water
from the Goalie Bladetape at conclusion of your play…wipe the bottom blade edge of your stick with a towel as well-just one quick pass to dry it.
I’ll bet that your stick life improves. Wet hockey tape is what leads to failures on the wooden/fibreglass sticks…it softens the lacquer
faster, leads to water ingress which results in swelling of the wood which then leads to shrinks and ultimately cracks and failure….
We’ll be coming to market with the heavier version with an under edge protective piece for you…til then keep trying this one, follow that tip and thanks
for the fabulous feedback!! Let’s see what Olaf Kolzig says…we just sent him some.
