Please use the YPbPr outlets for your HD content.) After swapping HD box with SHAW and doing some troubleshooting, the problem ended up being the TV. There was no problems using the DIV adapter with HDMI cable. The TV of course is HDPC compliant, but just had to be “unplugged” from the wall to reset itself. I was told by the tech that some TVs electronics as the HD Boxes themselves need to be reset at times if theres a slight glich.
Anyways, I’m not saying this will fix your problem….it just fixed mine and is worth a try. Good luck……PS Thanks SHAW.

Also, because the Motorola’s processor is so overtasked, you can screw up the HDCP check by pressing a bunch of menu buttons when the PVR powers up and causing it to seemingly abandon the process.

Both of these fixes attest to the fact that the Motorola DCTs are indeed very poorly-built products and their software load positively sucks.

Woke up this morning, turned on my three month old Philips Plasma (HDMI connected to Motorola DCT6416 III), and got the message described above followed by green screen. My initial reaction was oh my god my new TV was broke! I spend a few hours screwing around with settings, unplugging, and the like to no avail. After doing some research and running across this article I called the cable company. They informed me this is a known issue and someone would be out in a couple of days. Frustrated because tomorrow is football, I turned everything off and went up stairs to take a shower. Roughly a half hour later I came back down to rewire the system for YPbPr only to discover my son had turned the system back on soon after I had left and everything was working! I grabbed the remote from his hand, turned everything off and back on again, and still everything is working! Is it possible the cable company did some kinda firmware update through the cable? Regardless HDMI is working again so life is good for this football fan!

Sorry, any special ripping software does not come with a playback only software player-they figure you dont need it-as for hi def cable we can do without

Essentially, electronics manufacturers left consumers who have purchased pre-HDCP high definition television equipment stranded. Nice!

I convinced them to send a tech to my house and we tried a couple of 6412s until one worked.

As an update, it occasionally boots and then displays the GREEN SCREEN after handshaking with the TV / Receiver. This can be remedied by restarting the whole setup (thank god for universal remotes) which, inexplicably, solves the problem.

Weird.
